Vincenzo Galasso: A degree is an insurance policy for the future

A degree is like an insurance policy against life’s unforeseeable and difficult events, like the Covid pandemic. This is the firm belief of Vincenzo Galasso, Professor of political economics at the Bocconi university in Milan.

Together with his French colleague Martial Foucault at the Political Science Institute in Paris, during the months of lockdown Professor Galasso conducted a survey of 15,000 workers in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The survey provided some interesting insights. The first among many is that the people with the highest qualifications (a degree) were more likely to be able to work from home (smart working) and as a result keep their jobs.
